In conversation with Ali & Omar: The misconceptions of heavy metal

Ali & Omar had come to Manchester for the day from Liverpool to meet up with friends. It was evident from their appearance that they were rocking a love of metal music. Both Ali & Omar live for music, and are situated in just the right place, appreciating the immense music scene, past & present, that both cities have to offer.

Interestingly, Omar stated that he was apolitical, and that he doesn't want to engage in hate politics. Though he enjoyed talking about the subject, saying he holds a strong dislike of the government, re-iterating the importance that we all have freedom of speech. We're all entitled to our views and opinions, but you shouldn't come to a point where you force it onto others or try to start arguments. The metal scene is very diverse. People listen to metal music because they're more open-minded to different ideas. The metal culture is like a microcosm of society, of course there are misogynists and nationalists, there's also a strong feminist movement. Overall, most people are fine, right people. But we don't fight about it, we're all united through music, and when we come together, we're all just enjoying the music. It's a really strong community. Wherever you go in the world, you can find metalheads, and immediately you feel more at home. It's a community that exists all around the world.

I never gathered whether or not they were brothers, but both had a strong sense of confidence and seemed very comfortable sharing their thoughts with us. Thank you both.
